Digital signature FAQs
Plain-language answers about certificates, verification, tokens, renewals and security.
What is a Digital Signature Certificate?
A DSC is an electronic credential used to authenticate the identity of a signer and support digital signing under the applicable India PKI framework.
Does CCA issue DSCs directly?
No. CCA licenses and regulates Certifying Authorities; licensed CAs issue certificates to end entities after the applicable verification.
Is Class 2 DSC available?
Class 2 is no longer the normal public issuance route; current use cases are generally served through applicable Class 3 profiles. Always confirm the destination portal.
Which documents are required?
Requirements vary for individuals, organisations, foreign applicants and the chosen verification method. We provide a tailored checklist after the initial pre-check.
Can an old token be reused?
Sometimes, if it is supported, functional and compliant with the current process. Confirm compatibility before paying for a token-free option.
What if my name differs across PAN, Aadhaar or the portal?
Resolve material mismatches before application where possible. Identity and portal records should align to reduce rejection or registration issues.
Is the DSC valid throughout India?
A certificate issued under the India PKI framework is not limited to Chandigarh, but acceptance and usage depend on the destination system and its current requirements.
How do I revoke a compromised DSC?
Stop using the token, notify the issuer or authorised support channel immediately, and follow the CA revocation process. Do not share the token PIN.
